Sizing and tracing

Template library: cards, banknotes and coins

Cards, banknotes, coins and studs to size against, and your own shapes.

Updated 11 October 2026

A library of reusable shapes (templates): coins, bank notes and cards to check sizes against, studs and snaps, basic shapes, and your own.

The library

Click the Template library button in the top bar.

  • Folders open with a click. The Starter folder holds:
    • Coins: Euro, US, UK, Indian and Japanese coins.
    • Notes: current bank notes, one folder per currency: US dollar, Indian rupee, Euro, UK pound, Swiss franc, Canadian dollar, Brazilian real, Japanese yen, Chinese yuan, South Korean won, Singapore dollar, Thai baht, Philippine peso, Australian dollar, South African rand and Nigerian naira. Where every note of a currency has the same size (US dollar, Canadian dollar, Philippine peso), there is one template.
    • Cards: credit or debit card (ID-1, 85.6 × 53.98 mm), ID card (ID-2), passport (ID-3), and US, European and Japanese business cards.
    • Studs, Circles, Ovals and Squares.
    • Each name gives the size in mm, for example ₹500 (150 × 66).
  • Click a template to stamp it (see below).
  • Drag a template onto a folder to move it.
  • Hover for Rename (type, then Enter) and Delete (asks first).
  • New folder (inside the folder you last opened).
  • Import…: .pcadtpl template files or a whole zipped library; they go into an Imported folder.
  • Export zip…: the whole library as a zip of folders and .pcadtpl files.
  • The flip buttons at the top flip templates horizontally or vertically before stamping.

The library is kept in your browser.

Stamping

After clicking a template, its outline follows the cursor (snapping) and each click places a copy. Esc or a right-click stops. Stamped copies are drawn in line type 10 (red), so they stand apart from your cut lines. They are template objects: they are snapped to, and can be separated into lines (F8).

Registering your own templates

Select shapes and choose Shape ▸ Template object ▸ Register as library template…, then give it a name. It goes into My templates. Lines stay lines, Béziers stay Béziers, arcs and circles become Bézier curves.

If you register a single stamped template again, it replaces the original in the library.

File ▸ Import library templates… imports .pcadtpl files ("Imported 3 templates." or "Nothing to import.").

Marking with a template

With the Distance marking tool active, clicking a template in the library makes the marks stamp that template instead of ticks, turned along the path. See Distance marking.
