Terms of use
These terms cover PatinaCAD, the leather pattern program that runs in your web browser, and this website. By using PatinaCAD you agree to them.
In short
- PatinaCAD is free to use, for your own projects and for your business.
- Your patterns, and everything you make from them, are yours. You can sell both.
- PatinaCAD is provided as it is, with no warranty. Check your measurements before you cut leather.
- PatinaCAD is free but not open source. You may not copy, resell or redistribute the program itself.
1. Using PatinaCAD
You may use PatinaCAD free of charge, for personal or commercial work. You don't need an account, and there's no limit on how many patterns you make.
We may change PatinaCAD, add or remove features, or stop offering it. Changes are listed on the what's new page.
Please don't use PatinaCAD or this website to break the law, and don't try to disrupt them for other people.
2. Your patterns and what you make
- You own the patterns you create with PatinaCAD and the files you save. We claim no rights in them.
- You may use, share, publish and sell your patterns, and sell anything you make from them. You don't need to ask us, credit us or pay us.
- Your patterns never reach us. They stay on your computer, as the privacy policy explains.
- If you trace or import someone else's pattern, photo or drawing, make sure you're allowed to use it. Its rights stay with its owner.
3. Templates, irons and other built-in content
The built-in card, banknote and coin outlines, the studs and shapes, and the pricking irons and thread colours are there to help you size and plan your work. You may use them freely in your patterns, including patterns you sell.
4. The program itself
PatinaCAD's code, design, name and logo belong to us. PatinaCAD is free to use, but it isn't open source. You may not copy, change, resell or redistribute the program, or present it as your own.
5. Check before you cut
PatinaCAD helps you plan, but the result depends on things it can't see: your printer, your irons, your leather and your machines. Before you cut, punch, laser or print anything:
- Print at 100% (actual size) and measure the 100 mm ruler on the printout with a steel rule. The printer scale test page helps.
- Check the hole spacing against the pricking iron you'll use.
- Make a paper or scrap leather mock-up of a new design.
- Test laser and 3D printer settings on scrap first.
You're responsible for checking measurements, files and settings before you use them on leather or any other material.
6. No warranty
PatinaCAD and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes any warranty that they are accurate, fit for a particular purpose, free of errors, or always available. Where the law doesn't allow a warranty to be excluded, this applies only as far as the law allows.
7. Our liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss or damage that comes from using PatinaCAD or this website, or from not being able to use them. That includes spoiled leather and other materials, lost time, lost work and lost income.
Keep copies of the patterns that matter to you: save them as files and back them up. A browser can clear its storage, for example when you clear your browsing data.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If you keep using PatinaCAD after a change, the updated terms apply.
